Conscious Leadership

CJ Liu interviews Ina Gjikondoi, Director of Executive Education & Coaching at the George Washington University Center for Excellence in Public Leadership, about her e-Co Leadership Coaching program.

Initially the program was focused on embodiment, and teaching students how to draw a different kind of intelligence from their body. During the interview, Ida shares a centering meditation that is taught in her program. This simple centering technique is the basis for a leadership program widely requested in the public sector. Leaders who participated in the program found several benefits:

  • they found their authentic voices,
  • listened more deeply, and
  • asked better questions when connecting with work associates and their direct reports.

In turn, the leaders found personal transformation and more self-awareness. This created a ripple effect and often the cultures they were leading would change.

The other part of the program involves traditional ICF coaching techniques. The addition of this has created a powerful program that transforms team culture. e-Co Leadership Coaching program has been widely requested by organizations that are seeking higher employee engagement, change management (merger, new leader, succession planning) and want to foster more collaborative and accountable organizations. Currently, the program accepts those who have been a manager for at least 5 years and are at senior, midlevel, or frontline managers. A unique aspect of this program is the vision of having global impact based on the United Nations Sustainability Goals. As part of the program, the e-Co Leaders coach organizations focused on 3 issues (education, health and wellness, and climate action).
