Four Divine States of Mind
CJ Liu interviews award winning composer Yuval Ron on his newest album, “Four Divine States of Mind.”
In the Buddha’s teaching there are four kinds of contemplation designed to develop universal love to other living beings. These four are called Divine Abidings (brahma-vihara). Whoever can maintain any one of them even a moment has lived for that moment as the Highest Gods (the Brahma Deva). The four kinds are:
- Loving-kindness (metta)
- Compassion (karuna)
- Vicarious joy (mudita)
- Equanimity (upekkha)
