Part 2 of 3: How Can I Train My Brain to be Happy?

By  |

CJ Liu interviews Randy Taran, the Founder of Project Happiness and author of Emotional Advantage: Embracing All Your Feelings to Create a Life You Love.

After her documentary on Happiness, Taran wanted to gather all the research on happiness. She shares what she learned from Dr. Martin E.P. Seligman, who found that there are five building blocks that enable flourishing. Those blocks, know as PERMA™ are:

  • Positive Emotion
  • Engagement
  • Relationships
  • Meaning, and
  • Accomplishment.

During the interview Taran goes into more detail about PERMA™ and how these concepts can increase happiness. Specifically, how we can increase our life satisfaction by 25% just through trying some of the techniques. The amount of research on happiness and related techniques is overwhelming, and can feel impossible to know where to start. Taran explains that to be happier we must rewire our brains and habitual thinking. Just like anything, this requires practice. In the interview, she shares how using the 7 days in a week, you can retrain your brain with 7 Happiness Habits that will radically simplify making happiness a habit.

  • Monday: Mindfulness
  • Tuesday: Gratitude
  • Wednesday: Wellness
  • Thursday: Thoughtful/Kindness
  • Fridays: Freedom from conditioning
  • Saturday: Social
  • Sunday: Soul

Find out more about these habits and why they are important in the video.
